Title: substance abuse in anaesthesiologists? i am addicted to propofol!!!
Post by: skyhigh_hk on October 19, 2008, 03:07:38 AM
i am a new trainee in anaesthesia, as part of my rotation of training in other specialties. I found myself almost addicted to propofol, one just cannot describe the 'tranquility" after a propofol shot! (of course, i won't inject an induction dose to myself)

Dear brothers and sisters, do you have any advice for me?

Dearest friend,
Addiction is a personality. You stop one drug, you will end up some place else. Do some thing about that.
32 years of Anaesthesia practice(Including PG days),even I have fallen in love with a few drugs, but only for the paitent use.
Take care, you got a long way to go. WE need good youngsters to steer the branch.

unfortunately, the statistics are very grim for physicians who abuse the drugs that are used in practice.  Many times, a physician is caught, sent to rehab and allowed to return to the same practice.  The first sign of relapse is finding the anesthesiologist dead from an accidental drug overdose.

I am sad to say that I recommend that you change to a different specialty.
