General Discussion / Re: mixing muscle reaxants

I used atracurium during induction and thereafter continue with vecuronium without any significant alteration of recovery. I did this as no atracurium was available. First experiance was impending doom of adverse effects of mixing muscle relaxant.

Does anyone know what happens if you mix two different muscle relaxants for one patient during the same surgery? Like if you start with rocuronium and continue with mivacurium for prolonged relaxation..

Obstetric Anesthesia / Re: Epidural with Air or Salin...

I use NS almost exclusively but am not dogmatic about it noting at least the theoretical advantages of air.  I find the "aspiration test" problematic as the one time I threaded a catheter through the dura I had not been able to aspirate CSF into the catheter.  I depend heavily on the TD with epi and go slow.  As to one poster's note of "losing NS early due to lax tissue in the elderly", my perception is that this occurs in the interspinous ligament which is noticeably less dense than the LF.

General Discussion / Csection stat induction
Last post by Deann - November 01, 2013, 12:28:43 AM
When inducing a stat csection do you push drugs, secure an airway and say make incision( this is the procedure according to text) or do you push drugs, say make incision and then secure an airway.  If you are the only provider what is your sequence? What is the standard of care At your facility?
