Post-operative nausea and vomiting (PONV)

It is said that PONV associated with surgical procedures.

Also a large study reported rates of 37% for nausea and 20% for vomiting in patients undergoing general anaesthesia.

One of the unsolved Qs is how much anesthesia itself contributes to PONV.

What else aside from Droperidol, Odnansteron and Dexametasone we can use to prevent PONV?

If you give a prophylaxis, what dose?

gasboy

In the UK we often use a combination of antiemetics:
Ondansetron, Cyclizine, Dexamethasone or Stemitil.

Droperidol is no longer available in the  UK (shame!)

Your technique may also contribute to PONV,
Do you use nitrous oxide - N2O- ?
Do you over inflate the lungs and allow gas to enter the stomach?
