General Discussion / Rapid Fluid Infusion/Warming
Last post by SouthWest2SouthEast - March 05, 2013, 03:59:05 PM
What is everyone using to rapidly infuser/warm fluids including blood? Would be interesting to get your opinions.  ??? ???

"The Belmont FMS Rapid infuser/Warmer is an advanced and safe technology.  It is designed to safely cope with heavy trauma situations.

It's been in the US since 2000 and it is currently being used in a lot of theatres, obstetrics departments, transplant centres, and Trauma centres around the UK as well as the UK Military.
It is very popular due to its safety features over the other rapid infusers on the market (two ultrasonic air detectors, automatic air purge, line pressure control, real time temperature monitoring, bolus function), it's speed (extremely quick prime time, 37 degrees in a matter of seconds, 2.5-750ml/minute infusion rate), real time reading of total volume given, and its user-friendly touch screen control allowing it to be used by people with no experience of the machine.

The Belmont relies on dry heat so there is no water bath meaning it does not allow for mistakes like infusing the patient with the water bath fluid of which has commonly been found to contain pseudomonas strains.  It does not need anyone to squeeze the bags as it uses a roller pump to produce a peristalsis movement of fluid.

Less disposables will be needed as hospitals using rapid infusers that are tricky to set up or use a water bath will tend to have their machine set up ready so some sets are wasted as they are not always used on patients, unlike the Belmont FMS.  For more info or a trial call 078 919 312 65."
